Communicable Disease

The communicable disease program conducts investigative interviews with clients having or suspected of having reportable diseases. The program provides disease information and materials to professional clinicians, clients, international travelers and the general public. HIV / AIDS Education and Prevention Services

The Rock Island County Health Department is a member agency of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Region 2 Implementation Group (RIG), and receives funding for HIV/AIDS Prevention Services through IDPH.

RICHD staff meet regularly with representatives from other Quad-City health agencies to coordinate HIV/AIDS prevention activities in the Quad-City Area. These efforts include: community outreach; distribution of information and prevention supplies; education of providers, organizations, and residents of Rock Island County; and counseling, testing, and referral services.

HIV Counseling, Testing and Referral

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Prevention Program provides anonymous and confidential HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral. Services are available to anyone twelve years of age and older meeting the CDC criteria for individuals at high-risk for HIV infection.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have designated these as: Men who have Sex with Men and their sexual partners, Injection Drug Users and their partners, sexual partners of HIV Positive individuals, and persons who engage in high-risk sexual practices.



Immigration and Naturalization

The Health Department is a Designated Civil Surgeon appointed by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service. Health physicals and immunizations are provided for immigrants seeking U.S. residency.

Immunizations

Immunization administration is provided by appointment for children and adults. To Schedule an appointment call 794-7080. There is a fee for administering vaccines and a fee for vaccines not provided by the state health department (ex. Hepatitis A and B for adults). Health education and materials are available. Influenza Vaccinations

The immunization program offered approximately 75 clinics throughout Rock Island County. Medicare and Medicaid pay for the vaccinations for their recipients and a fee is charged to those who are not covered. No one is denied if they are unable to pay. International Travel

The Health Department provides information on vaccine preventable diseases recommended for international travel, administers immunizations such as tetanus, diphtheria, polio, hepatitis A & B, influenza and pneumonia vaccines and stamps booklets to document such vaccinations.

Refugee Screening Program

The Refugee Screening Program serves individuals who are required to be screened for health problems upon entering the United States.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

STD clinics are available for males on Thursdays from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Appointments are preferred. Services are available to anyone twelve years of age or older who meet the guidelines for testing and treatment. Call for information regarding fees. Females may be seen at the Women's Health Service at the Health Department. Health education is available for groups or individuals.

Tuberculosis

The TB program guides and oversees TB control efforts of local institutions and practitioners in Rock Island County. The program provides consultation regarding TB treatment, contact investigation and infection control practices. The intradermal Mantoux tuberculin skin test is provided to the general public for a small fee. Staff provide education and training to infection control nurses, long-term care facilities, nursing schools, school nurses and community-based organizations and individuals.
